How do I install my mushroom garden?

Wine cap prefers hard wood chips to grow, they will also grow on fir but will do better on hardwood. Hardwood is Alder, birch beech, Ash, Oak, Maple. Most deciduous trees will work, don't use Cedar, or Pine, or Fir trees. Also don't use walnut, as it have powerful anti-fungal constituents.

You have about 25 sq. foot of spawn. Or a 5x5foot garden bed, or a 10x2foot garden bed. The method for installing a successful garden bed is

1. (optional) digging down 6 inches
2. Put down cardboard so other plants don't compete with your mushroom, take off the tape first.
3. Put down a later of Woodchips about 1.5-2inches
4. Sprinkle a layer of mycelium
(repeat 3 & 4 if you would like or have enough wood chips)
5. Put one last layer of wood chips on your Garden bet to cover the spawn.
6.(Optional) Cover the bed with straw if you have it, it keeps in moisture to protect your bed!
7. You can soak your wood chips before hand, or water your garden after you are done. Remember to water regularly if it is dry where you are, or plant your garden somewhere water falls off of your house, or near a low wet spot.

This mushroom is known to fruit in the Spring, Summer and Fall. If you add more wood-chips to your bed in the winter you will give it more food so it is likely to fruit again heavily the next year too! You can make your garden bigger each year by extending the perimeter of your garden. If your whole garden is filled with hardwood chips the mushroom will travel! And you will see it other places too!
